PAIDE Performing Artists spent Valentines Day with the Grandparents

By Michael S. Potian

We normally celebrate Valentine's Day with a special dinner date for our love ones. For some, sparkling wines and champagnes are perfect for a valentine celebration but for PAIDE sign language interpreters, we do prioritize a meaningful celebration by extending services to others.

It was a year ago when Sir Jun, our CEO accepted a speaking engagement at the School of Deaf Education and Applied Science (SDEAS), De La Salle University – College of St. Benilde. It was also February 14 when he brilliantly discussed and confidently answered inquiries on the Interpreters' Code of Ethics.

This year, Emelie Gentalian and Nemia Abiday awed the audience with their inspiring and superb performances as guest artists. Fresh from our 4 th Concert in Sign Language on January 27 at the Philam Life Theater, Melie and Nemz were invited to grace MARIST SCHOOL Grandparents' Day Celebration last February 14, 2007.

Nemz, dressed in bright orange pants; floral blouse and blond wig, who happens to be a Marist faculty, surprised her pupils, colleagues, and the school administrators with her grand entrance of the song interpretation of “Babae Po Ako” popularized by Tuesday Vargas.

On the other hand, Emelie belted out two (2) wacky numbers. The first one was an artistic interpretation of an OPM made famous in the 70's by Cherrie Gil entitled Boy (I love you) and the final one was AEGIS' “Hahanapin Ko” which required her to dress conservatively with matching eye glasses and a grandmother's attire to the delight of the audience respectively. Lights from cameras and the screaming audience really brought the house down.

The affair was a successful one. The venue was beautifully decorated with red hearts of various sizes. It was a romantic and a festive ambiance for grandparents valentine celebration… a tradition that has been going on for years at MARIST SCHOOL , Marikina City .

Two of the grandparents participated for the talent show. The first one showed her unfading prowess in dancing the tango and the next one recited a beautiful poem that hushed the audience. The grandsons showed their best to entertain the grandparents with their talent in singing and dancing.

To Melie and Nemz, our congratulations! We're proud of you! Good reviews of your performances addends “ Laurel ” to PAIDE. Keep up the good work and may you'll have more interpreting services and guest performances to come!
